Borough President Candidate Leticia Remauro blasts bureaucrats for closing E-Z Pass Customer Service Center on Staten Island
Leticia Remauro, candidate for Staten Island Borough President is calling on the MTA to immediately reverse its decision to close the Staten Island E-Z Pass Customer Service Center and move it to Rochester.
The Customer Service center has been closed for over a year due to COVID-19 precautions. Staten Islanders were expecting its reopening once the pandemic was under control. There was no warning to Staten Island residents before the unexpected announcement. Customers used to being able to walk in and receive assistance will now have to do it exclusively online or through the phone.
“This is a short-sighted decision that once again puts the interests of a vendor in another city over the needs of Staten Island residents,” said Remauro. “It is going to cause a terrible inconvenience to Staten Island customers used to walking in and receiving assistance. The claim made by the MTA that Staten Islanders will be able to get better customer service when their Customer Service center is shut down permanently, and moved to Rochester and other parts of Upstate is just laughable,” added Remauro.
“Closing the Staten Island center permanently is a result of failed leadership and a startling reluctance of local elected officials to stand up to the disastrous duo of Mayor de Blasio and Governor Cuomo,” said Remauro. “I’m calling on the MTA to reverse this illogical decision and fully reopen the center on Staten Island,” added Remauro.
Leticia Remauro went on to say that “as your Borough President, it is exactly these types of capricious and counterproductive decisions against the interests of Staten Island that I will fight against and prevent from happening in the first place”.
